Arvada Colorado is called the “place where the great plains meet the Rocky Mountains.” Located in Jefferson County, just west of Denver, Arvada is situated amid some of the most magnificent scenery in the country. Jefferson County is 774 square miles of rugged mountains, craggy rock formations, rolling grasslands, sparkling streams and tall pines. With such beautiful countryside and over 300 days of sunshine each year, outdoor recreation is an important part of the city of Arvada. You’ll find over 135 miles of trails located within the city limits for hiking, biking and horseback riding. A project called Trails 2000 is ongoing and is expected to link more than 200 miles of trails with urban parks and scenic mountain areas throughout Jefferson County. The American Hiking Society named the trail system the best in the nation in 1996. All the trails are very well maintained all year long, with snow is removed in the winter months. Arvada takes great pride in its award winning parks and trail system, and with 76 total parks in all, they have much to boast about. Visitors can also enjoy a total of 47 playgrounds, 42 tennis courts, 3 golf courses and a number of soccer and baseball fields. Arvada is also just a few miles from several National and State Parks and Forests, with all the outdoor recreational opportunities they provide, plus world class ski resorts.

Historic Olde Town Arvada is one of the city’s other major attractions. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Olde Town earned national recognition in 2003 for commercial district revitalization by the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s National Main Street Center. Olde Town is home to a weekly farmer’s market every Thursday during summer, hosts several special events and annual festivals, including The Arvada Gold Strike Festival. Arvada is also home to a very diverse, award-winning Center for the Arts and Humanities. Open year-round, the center features professional theater, concerts and art exhibits. It also includes a history museum, holds ongoing humanities classes for all ages and has a 7,000 square foot banquet and meeting room. Another popular Arvada attraction is the Majestic View Nature Center, which holds a number of exciting and fun events for the whole family, such as wildlife workshops and outdoor astronomical seminars. The Red Rocks Amphitheater is less than 30 minutes from Arvada, and many museums are located in the area including Buffalo Bill’s Grave and Museum, Colorado Railroad Museum, and the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. The Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Preserve is a 110-acre park in Jefferson County that has hiking trails that wind through ponderosa pine forests and meadows. You can picnic under the pines and hike at your own pace, or join a naturalist-guided program. Other attractions in the Arvada area include the Coors Brewery, Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center and The Hiwan Homestead Museum. Nearby Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver has rides, games, food and attractions for the whole family to enjoy, and is just minutes from Arvada.
